Male celebrities share their personal mental health struggles
In a field where mental toughness is the dominant culture, athletes are beginning to share that they are not exempt from mental health conditions. Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy recently shared his personal experiences with anxiety, depression and panic disorder in the hope that his story could help others. Additionally, forthcoming memoirs from Actor Christopher Eccleston and “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness revealed their individual experiences with mental health conditions, providing additional perspectives to the larger mental health conversation.
School safety continues to trend
As students settle back into the school routine, an 8 point plan to stop mass shootings and end gun violence in American schools was a top article this week. Although the article was released in February by Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, its recent popularity evidences the continued conversation around gun violence and mental health. The plan combines gun safety policies with school-based intervention strategies to help keep schools safe. An article from November 2018 interviewing elementary school children on how they feel during a lock-down drill also resurfaced in the top news, in complement to the Everytown safety plan. The interviews demonstrate how children process the routine drills and the confusing emotions that accompany each drill.
