A continued focus on gun violence, and a new emphasis on the mental health experiences of teens and young adults
Discussion on mass shootings and gun violence continued from the previous week, including often politically motivated discourse on the associations between mental health and gun violence and possible solutions to the problem. Discourse related to the mental health of teens and young adults was also prominent throughout past week conversation. A recent study found a strong link between depression and social media use, particularly in teenage girls. The study suggested that high frequency of social media use disrupts activities that promote positive mental health, such as sleep and exercise, while exposing users to negative content such as cyberbullying. Other commonly shared content also highlighted sleep deprivation and the increased stress and depression experienced by students today.
